Why does colder weather always seems to induce a switch from hip hop and country to indie rock?

“It’s Only Life” is a single off the Shin’s somewhat recent album, but it’s only just started to resonate with me.  This weekend saw the coldest temperature’s we’ve had here in Amherst so far, and there’s something about the transition to colder weather that seems to draw me back to indie rock and The Shins.  “It’s Only Life” has all the classic elements that made The Shins so popular: wistful, melancholy songwriting, gentle guitar-led instrumentation, and catchy harmonies.
