Probably not a huge surprise that a singer who has previously released a song called “Fuck You” has a new song that says “bitch” roughly 129 times. Lily Allen’s new song is a seething take down about the patriarchy and sexism if you’re into that sort of thing. The video builds on that theme and even pays an ironic tribute to Robin Thicke’s polarizing “Blurred Lines” video. Regardless if you feel that way or not, at the core of this song is a incredible pop sensibility with an extremely memorable chorus. It will be interesting to see where this song goes in the coming weeks but it has a message that’s going to resonate with a lot of people and a melody that will resonate with even more.
Here’s Lily Allen singing a cover of Keane’s “Somewhere We Used to Know” with an adorable Christmas advertisement for some British department store. I realize its just trying to get me to buy shit but damn I got emotionally invested in animated animals quickly. Capitalism!
